Hills Like White Elephants
"Hills Like White Elephants". The title itself gives you an idea that there will be a difficult conversation in the story. People often use the term an elephant in the room as a way of describing an obvious; but difficult topic to be discussed. We have two main characters in this story. The American man and the girl. We get informed towards the middle of the story that this so called elephant in the room is about the girl getting an abortion. Of course at first it seems that the girl does in fact want to keep the baby. The man is strongly against it. We can tell by reading, that the two are in disagreement. Towards the end you can tell that the girl completely submits into going through with the abortion. What I came to notice however is that from the beginning the girl might have already decided on the abortion. If she was truly against it she would not have touched the liquor from the beginning, she would have drank it only after she made a decision. Th...
